Shubnum Khan is a South African writer and artist. Her first novel, 'Onion Tears', about 3 generations of Indian Muslim women was shortlisted for the Penguin Prize for African Writing and the University of Johannesburg Debut Fiction Prize. Her second book, a travel memoir, 'How I accidentally became a global stock photo and other strange and wonderful stories' was published in 2021. Shubnum has a degree in Media and an MA in English and holds writing fellowships from Jack Jones Literary Arts and the Mellon Foundation at Stellenbosch University. Her writing has been published in HuffPost, O, the Oprah Magazine, The Sunday Times, New Contrast, Saraba Magazine and McSweeney's Quarterly Concern.
